Default Need Help Toshiba TV's

Hi all,

I've got a Toshiba CX29801 28" television and I also have the 21" version of
the same TV and they both have the same problem. The vertical deflection is
shrunk, only about 1/3 to 1/2 of the screen comes on and the picture is full
of what looks like thick scan lines. On the 21" TV I essentially pulled
every cap and tested them with my BK tester (couldn't test for leakage
though). After confirming that all the caps were OK and checking the rest of
the components which I suspected I ended up buying a new vertical deflection
IC (AN5515) and that made absolutely no difference whatsoever!

I've recently picked up this 28" model and it has the exact same fault!

I'm pretty sure that it's something simple but I don't service TV's for a
living so I don't know what the fault could be unless it's the voltage
regulator IC? That's one of the items I haven't checked yet.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Philip

Use a cap meter that will test for ESR, not just for the cap value. There is
a difference. The common fault in these sets, from what you are describing,
are caps with low ESR. The other way to find the bad caps is to sub each one
of them for a new one.
