Default Central Air Flow Problem

Possibly running too cold or not passing through enough warm air causing the
unit to freeze up and block air flow completely?

I'd guess from the symptoms you described that you have something
restricting air flow through the A/C evaporator. Have you closed your
outlet vents or blocked your air intakes? If the filter truly is clean then
the evaporator coils may need cleaning.
Good luck.

Bob

Weird situation. My air flow starts out fine. Strong and cold.
Gradually, though, the airflow diminishes. After about 15 minutes, the
unit is still running, but it is producing no air flow through the
vents. The vents still feel cold though, as if it were a blower and
not a Freon problem.

If I do nothing, the unit just continues running. It fails to cool
the house and just eats up my electric. If I shut it off manually,
wait about a half an hour or so, and turn it on again, the cycle
starts again - strong cold flow diminishing to nothing after about 15
mins.

Default Central Air Flow Problem

The evaporator coil inside is probably freezing up

I'm not an AC guy but here's my idiot's perspective:

Filter is clean. If there were a blockage, I'd probably get no flow
at all, beginning or end of cycle. If freon were low, I'd probably
get no cold air at all, beginning or end of cycle.

Why the gradual nature of the failure? Why does it come back after a
break of a half hour or so? Why do fools fall in love?

Thank you in advance.

The system is probably low on freon causing the evaporator coils to freeze
up and ice over. Not so low to prevent operation, but low enough that the
system gets too cold due to the lower than normal pressure in the system.

if the unit is properly charged and not low on refrigerant...did you recently
buy a different type of filter where the mesh is finer....if you bought one of
those fine filters you are blocking your air flow to the evaporator and it's
freezing...if it's the same type you have always been using you are low on
refrigerant.......

I would join the people saying that it is freezing. Have the freon level
checked.
