Savin (Ricoh) SLP416c Color Laser not transfering all toner
Hello all,
I picked up a Ricoh SLP-416c Color Laser Printer at a hamfest today for $30. It works...sort of. Basically, best I can tell, the unit has 4 toner cartridges stacked on on top of each other and a green photosensitive imaging "ribbon" This in turn transfers each colors' toner onto a red-brown, "holding" drum, and when all 4 colors are on this holding drum, the paper passes between this drum and the corona wire, into the fuser, and out of the printer. Now...when I got this printer, the fuser oil had spilled inside it. Luckily, it mostly concentrated in a few places - in particular this red drum. I've taken apart the printer and cleaned it the best I could and it seems OK now, but I have one problem (which may or may not have existed prior to the oil spilling) About 50% of the toner appears to be sticking to this drum rather than fusing to the paper. This results in the image being pale and spotty on the paper (almost looks like the toner cartridges are running out, but this is not the case) I believe the imaging ribbon is in good condition as the image "builds up" on this drum solidly. Can anyone tell me what this drum is? I'm wondering if it still has an oil residue on it and that is why the toner is sticking to it. Alternatively, perhaps the HV for the corona wire is not high enough for some reason? What can this red drum safely be cleaned with? Thanks, Eric Kotz |

My guess is this printer is similar to the qms magicolor 2.
The problem you have is indeed related to the oil spillage, the qms magicolor 2 had the same problem. If you want to repair it decent (I would not advise it) you'd have to replace the following : transfer drum (red drum) transfer roller (black roller just below the corona in the rear door) opc-belt (photosensitive belt) drum cleaner (located underneath the top cover between the fuser and opc-belt) waste feeder upper (located underneath the drum cleaner) all 4 toner cartriges. The problem is that when you've powered up the printer after the oil spillage the transfer drum came in contact with the transfer roller, drum cleaner and opc belt transferring the oil to these parts and these parts in return transferred the oil to other parts they come in contact with. I have experimented with cleaning these parts in the past but found no cleaning solvent that realy sattisfied me since transfer never realy got restored fully. Best result for the drum was washing it using plain old soap and some warm water and then lessing it dry for a few days. as for the transfer roller and drum cleaner there is no way to clean it due to the type of material being used. waste feeder, opc-belt and toners can also not be cleaned, if you can't find oil on them it's safe to let them be. If there is oil stickin to them they will transfer this back to the transfer drum. Jeff. "Eric Kotz" schreef in bericht s.com... Savin (Ricoh) SLP416c Color Laser not transfering all toner
Unfortunately, I believe the OPC-Belt is worn out now, as while the
printing is MUCH better (about 95% of what it should be) there are a couple light spots. Anyone by chance have a spare new (or possibly good used) OPC belt for this printer they are interested in selling? I believe it takes the same one as the Ricoh 204 (99.9% sure) and 206 (I think) units, among others. Hi I've sen this chassis before and yes, it´s same as Magicolor2. Light streaks on output may result from toner dust on a slit-glass plate located below the toner cassettes. (Laser Scanner is located there) Take all toners out and check for the (black) plastic glass-holder that is removeable for cleaning. This procedure is covered in the manual for QMS Magicolor 2. If the belt is worn out, usually it is visible some scratches along the surface and small "cracks" in the greeen opc-layer at the edges. Also check the belt for uniform color, as lighter patches in surface is a sign of opc-layer wearing out. /Andreas |
