Default e/w distortion, what does it stand for and what is it?

Hi,

Anyone knows what e/w distortion stands for (tv-repair related). What
exactly is the distortion and possible where I can find the reason inside a
tv for this disortion?

Thanks

It stands for East/West distortion, referring to a characteristic bowing in
of both vertical sides of the picture under various fault conditions.

Do you mean "barrel" and "pincushion" distortion?

Cheers,

This is usually referred to as pin cushioning distortion on the sides, left
and right. Mostly caused by failed components in the pin amp area, and
sometimes the scan areas.

I'm familiar with all of the terms, but the OP specifically asked what e/w
distortion meant.

A rose by any other name...
