Default Mitsubishi 2656R TV

This set just starting acting up after 15 years.
Yesterday the color faded out for about ten minutes and then came back. It
did not go completely gray just very weak colors. The colors could be
restored by adjusting the color using the remote. Then I got better and I
had to back of the color setting to get back to normal

Today it started out with the picture shifted to the left (from the viewer's
perspective and had some horizontal tearing, The color intensity was erratic
again.

After about 15 minutes the horizontal problems seemed to resolve themselves,
but the color intensity was still a little unstable.

Things that are normal include: audio, vertical position and sweep, and
there is no video blooming with a change in the picture.

Any clue as to a possible single fault? I could just write this set off,
but I am a retired EE with time to kill. I still have a soldering iron, a
VTVM (yes VT is right) but no schematic. It's been years since I have had
to attack the innards of a TV and I need a little guidance.

At the age of this box I expect that there will be mostly PTH components and
not surface mount.

Charlie Bress:
If your Mits television has the PIP feature
you will want to do a Google Groups search
with the phrase "Mitsubishi PIP" ..... you
will find enough postings and possible repair
solutions to keep you reading all night.
