I need to buy a small connector to replace a damaged one on my mp3 player.
I bought one from maplin but it was too large. You can see them in comparison he http://parent.dansguardian.org/images/26way.jpg The smaller one at the bottom is the damaged one that I need a replacement for. It is roughly 32mm long the one that is too large is 37.5mm. I have searched in vain for a supplier. Does anyone know where I might get one? Thanks. |

From measuring your picture it looks like the connector is 2mm pitch, which would fit with a 1mm pitch ribbon cable. I can't seem to find these in any of Rapid, Farnell or RS. My laptop (an Acorn A4) has a 26 way, 2 inch long cable in this pitch... which is made of individual crimped wires, so it looks like they had trouble finding these as well (or they didn't exist 10 years ago). The usual suspects above sell housings into which you could insert crimp terminals - so split up the ribbon cable, crimp on terminals to each wire and insert into a housing. I have a 3.5"-2.5" IDE adaptor that does this, so evidently they had the same problem. Theo -- Theo Markettos Liphook, Hampshire, UK http://www.markettos.org.uk/ |

Theo The existing is IDC so it would make it easier to connect, however I am interested in the components you suggest. Which are the housings (page or prod id) and which are the crimps and would I need a crimping tool? Luckily if you're A4 broke you can buy an Alpha ![]() me finding a seeminly simple component ![]() |
