Default mp3 wil not recordno more?

the sigmatel based

device now only hums instead of clear recording from the built in electret mic
What should one check first or what circuit to use to hook electret mic to line in input

something tells me the jack for the head set which most likely
has the mic ring on it isn't set well any more. Maybe cracked on
the board or stuck disconnect pin?
