Default Liteon LVW5115GHC+ does not prepare discs or write.

This unit plays DVD's, DVD+RW from other recorders and CD-R MP4's perfectly,
but has no writing activity. Is this a weak laser and can it be replaced.
Manufactured Dec 2005. Can anyone help?.
Thanks, Grahame.

Try a firmware upgrade before you condemn the unit. I own a Lite On All
Write 5000 and have had to upgrade firmware a few times to fix quirky
behavior.

If the laser is dying, people have had some success replacing the entire
loader with a Liteon DVD burner. There are some threads in the Liteon
forums at club.cdfreaks.com on this.
