Default hitachi CL1709 chopper transformer problem

I hope someone could give me a few pointers here. Set is a hitachi CL
1709 with g7-ps mk3 chassis, estimated 1992-3 vintage.

I have just replaced a shorted power supply regulator STR D6601 and
resoldered a number of dry joints around the power supply area which I
suspect caused it to fail. Checked for any other shorted diodes or open
resistors and found nothing suspect.
Set now powers up and works well. Raster is stable, correct size, no
evidence of any breathing or blooming etc. sound also fine.

However, after running the set for about 30 mins I decided to check all
was Ok inside. STR D6601 and its heatsink were fine, but I noticed that
the chopper transformer (marked M 2229751) was excessively hot, to the
point where I could not hold my finger against its metal core for more
than a few seconds. It also buzzes , not excessively but noticeably, in
operation. Obviously there is something amiss here. Is it a case of
changing the transformer or is have I missed something else causing the
overheating?

regards, B.
