Default JVC HR-J725 vcr

Hi,

I have a JVC HR-J725 ( EK ) in great condition apart from a what looks like a
mechanical fault.

There's a tape 'stuck inside' and it won't eject. When powered on, a motor tries
to unload the tape but there's something stopping it working. It seems that
whatever the motor is trying to turn via a belt ( the eject mechanism
presumably ) is jammed. Then the unit powers back down into standby after a few
seconds.

Any insight into how to proceed ?

Graham

Take the case apart and manually rotate the basket drive to unload the
basket. Be sure the tape is fully rewound into the cassette first, and
not partially spooled. Then, replace the load drive belt (if it uses
one). If the tape is partially spooled, try to operate the transport
mechanism manually to unload the tape.

the belt which connects that motor you hear to the gearing has probably
gone slack. try assisting it with a finger to see if it will 'bite' and
spit out the tape. if not, I suggest you take the unit to a tech, to
avoid screwing things up totally. This sort of repair is not normally
expensive provided you don't upset the timing of the mechanism. Don't
be tempted to play about or it may turn out very expensive later!

Slightly.

Yes I did that. Whatever's on the other end of the belt is 'locked up' in one
direction.

if not, I suggest you take the unit to a tech, toavoid screwing things up totally.

Hmmmm... I wonder if that's the problem with another JVC video I have. The pinch wheel
won't properly engage. Not because I played with it though.

Ok !

Any idea what it actually is ?
