The last time I ordered parts for mine it was on eBay (a seller with en eBay
shop).

I believe spares are now made by 'Cooper Tools' if my memory serves me
correctly.

Go to Farnell www.farnellinone.co.uk

They keep all of the Weller TCP series irons, tips and spares, and anyone
can now buy from them, online, and pay by secure credit card.

Thanks for that, Arfa. I'd always wrote them off as a trade only
establishment. It's good to hear they've changed their policy.

Also try http://www.cpc.co.uk

WL00391 is the TCP heating element (£11.69+VAT in 2006 cat)

Although CPC is owned by Farnell, some of their pricing is a bit more
down to earth....

£11.69 is quite a good price. I've still got a spare element but I could do
with a spare magnastat. I'll give their site a look.

Heck, that's 10 minutes away from me by car! I can't believe I didn't know
that!

To be pedantic, the county of Tyne And Wear was abolished years ago, but
people are very slow to get used to this fact. It's now Washington,
Sunderland. Some people in Washington won't accept it and still use the old
address.

To any Americans who are following this thread and wondered about the
'Washington' reference, here's a little tidbit of info- Washington,
Sunderland was the ancestral home of George Washington's family and indeed
the house is still there. We have a major road in Sunderland called
'Wessington way'. Wessington was the 'olde English' form of 'Washington'.
The local football (soccer) team (Sunderland AFC) play in red and white
stripes, the colours from the Washington crest which also make up the Stars
and Stripes.

You can all wake up now ;-)

That is the exact address as the Cooper Tools UK office uses --
the manufacutring and assembly of the European Weller TCP parts is different
from
the Americas version - made in Germany

:-)

Even RS sell to anyone with a credit card.

Rapid is always worth a try - good prices with no minimum charge.

They seem to, and I've not been thrown out of a 'trade centre' yet (and
nabbed the free 100cwt paper catalog!), but the following is in their
selling T&C's.

"RS is a business-to-business supplier. The RS website is intended for
use by business customers and not for consumers or private individuals.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, nothing in these terms and conditions of
sale shall affect the statutory rights of a Customer who deals as a
consumer."

The above is worded so you wonder, do they - or don't they?

I wish we had something like Frys in the US!

Yep, they're not alone either. There are some businesses in Washington who
claim it's a Newcastle address! The fact that several miles, the town of
Gateshead and a river seperate Newcastle and Washington, and that Washington
is officially inside the boundaries of the City of Sunderland doesn't stop
them!

IIRC, you have to register before you can buy off the website - but that's
all. A private name and address is ok. Registering also lets you download
spec sheets, etc.
