Default Problem with Yamaha rx-v450 amp

No power on function, started becoming difficult to turn on over a
couple of days.

Checked speakers(Bose lifestyle) could find no problem.

Am trying to source a service manual for it.

Any ideas?

Yes i have some thought but why did you check your speakers for your
problem ? This is confusing. Does it turn on at all or not ? itf the
unit doesn`t turn on then it is not the speakers. What all did you
check on this unit. Did you atleast check for bad solder connections
? I have the schematic but I am not sure if you know how to read it
to undersatnd it to help you to locate your problem. Please give us
some more detail besides just checking speakers.

Service manuals are available from Yamaha for about $18, but unless you are
trained or have a lot of experience on these units, they can be a bear for
even a good tech. Could be a leaky backup cap, which have been known to
cause problems on some Yamaha receivers. Needs some real diagnosis. I'd
look for a shop that is a Yamaha ASC or at least does a lot of Yamaha
service.

Speakers would not likely cause intermittent power on. Curious, though, how
did you "check" the speakers?

The user manual indicated that the unit will switch off if there are
faulty speakers,.I checked the speaker wiring looking for shorts. By
investigating on the net I now assume that the unit will turn on for a
second or two before it turns off.

I have not gone further until I get some circuits, no sense probing
around in the dark and maybe causing a further problem.

Who did you send it to? Yamaha would have likely take some action by now if
there was that kind of delay for parts. You need to call Yamaha customer
service. Where is your dealer in all of this?

Hi

I have the exact same problem with a Yamaha RX-V1400. Unit shuts-off after
a few minutes even with no sources or ouputs connected. I did post about
it here awhile ago but received no reply, so in the meantime I sent it to
the local Yamaha Service and it has been there for 4 months. They now say
the EPROM has lost configuration and they are waiting for a new one. I
suspect they have stuffed it up as I don't think the EPROM could have been
the cause of this problem. If you or anyone finds the cause of cause
please let me know. And IF mine ever gets repaired I will let you know.

Regards

Hi Leonard

I have e-mailed Yamaha through the customer service section on their EU site
MANY times but received no reply. The dealer I have to deal with is
Videoacustica in Portugal. When the unit first developed the fault it was
still under warranty but Videoacustica said that they would not repair it
under warranty as I did not purchase it from them. I purchased the unit in
Germany but as per EU trade law the warranty should be valid in Portugal
aswell. Not so ?

Anyway....very dissapointed with Yamaha for not replying to my e-mails and I
don't know who else to call in Europe regarding this matter. Maybe someone
here can help ? !

Cheers

No experience with Yamaha outside the US. Here they are very customer
oriented. They will not, however, support products from another country.

I would go back to the vendor in germany.
