![]() All of you were very helpful the last time I asked a question and I used the information to repair my TV, which is working great. Today I have another problem TV that I'm sure you can help me with. It is a JVC Model AV2779S. The set always had a picture that was a little to tall but as years went by it became worse and I could not read the news that runs across the bottom of the screen as on CNN. Finally last week the sound quit working. I really loved this TV and the sound it produced was first class for its age. Where do I want to start working on this unit and what should I be looking for? Thank you, Harry |

You should chuck it in the trash and buy an Apex.

Thank you, Harry Chances are the sretched picture was caused by capacitors in the vert. section going bad. When it got bad enough it took out the vert. IC. First, you'll want to replace all the electrolytic caps in the vertical circuit, and the vertical output IC, as it's likely shorted. While I'm not familiar with that model, there's probably a resistor which feeds both the vertical and audio circuits which has opened. If the CRT is good, do not chuck it in the trash and buy an APEX. |

I can't say I'm familiar with any model JVC, but I don't understand how
the vertical IC is likely shorted if the problem is the picture being too tall? He didn't mention losing vertical. Wouldn't there be an internal pot or an on screen adjustment through a service code to mediate this? I understand components age and fail, but I thought that some adjustments like this may be necessary after years of use. I trust your repair skills, just the vertical stuff doesn't make sence to me. |
