Default DVD recorder

hi
probably just for the UK I expect but any input is appreciated.
i need a DVD recorder and don't want to pay out a wodge of cash until
sony and the others have sorted out which format is to be used.
My local supermarket has a Dawoo DVD recorder for 70 pounds.it does
media recording,+R/RW -R/RW eight hours recording,four recording
modes,video plus,PDC and video scan.
As it is so cheap compared to others, what is it missing?will it play
cd music?or do i have to still have my DVD player.
I'm not really clued up on these things so any help will be
appreciated.I will buy better if required just wondered why this was
so cheap comprared to the 200 quid ones in other shops.
thanks

You may want to confirm that it can to double layer recording

Piece of crap ? That'll be the Daewoo ...

Seriously, though, it won't have anything missing, apart from build quality.
Most of these real cheap end ones are multiregion play of DVD as well as
being able to play CD, VCD, SCD and often MP3 and photo CD as well. The
recording format is neither here nor there. Bet you're only going to use it
like a VCR for timeshifting most of the time, so as long as it records an
acceptable picture and sound for 8 hours or whatever, then any format will
be fine.

At the end of the day, for 70 quid, with a year ( and possibly 2 years )
warranty on it, if the laser is clapped out after a year, then at only £1.20
a week, it's stood you in nothing, and you can send it to the tip.

Incidentally, Asda are doing one also for £ 68.99, and I have heard very
good reports on it. Go for it. Treat your self for Chrissy ...
