Reconditioning Chattering Well Water Pump Control Box Relay?

Am trying to get some info before pulling my well water pump control
box apart.

The main question is if the relay contacts can be reconditioned?

Have done some searches to see if anyone else had posted this question.
So far nothing but did come across a few interesting relay postings
like this
http://groups.google.com/group/sci.e...a4fb5fd6b6ba0d
and this
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.g...1ceae49bff2531

Have no idea what to expect when I willstart taking it apart so would
appreciate any suggestions or tips.

FYI the Pump Control Panel is a "Town & Country date code CX" mfr Red
Jacket which became part of ITT in 2001. So far I have searched but
have not been able to find a parts list for it so do not know anything
about the relay.

Thanks

Some relay contacts can be reconditioned. You can burnish them
with a contact burnisher, and in some cases actually replace the
contact point itself. You can find identical contacts from
another relay and replace them.

Gold plated contacts cannot be burnished without ruining them.

Reconditioning contacts was common practice in arcade game
service in the electromechanical days.

Anything *can* be reconditioned, but for something like this it's only worth
trying if you absolutely can't find a suitable replacement. You should be
able to get a new contactor for under $20, www.usamfg.com might have
something suitable, or ebay.
