I used it in my Yaisu FT-101 35 years ago as a Rf compressor. The Yaisu
generated the SSB signal around 3 Mhz. I ended up replacing the final
tubes with industrial 6146s (6080 I think). The sweep tubes couldn't
take the increase in average power. Everyone thought I was running a
2KW linear when I switched the compressor on.

load, otherwise you'll saturate the output differential pair.

You'll get clicks and pops. For audio compression an inverted Bipolar
device or a JFET will work *much* better.

FWIF, about the same time I used the MC1350P for an RF SSB compressor an
article was published in one of the ham radio magazines showing how to
build an outboard audio compressor using the MC1350P. In order to get it
to work the author modulated an RF signal and compressed the RF and then
demodulated the RF signal and applied the resulting compressed audio
into the microphone jack. I found it much easier to compress the
transceiver's SSB modulated signal and then making sure the signal was
amplified linearly after it was compressed. The chip was designed for RF
applications in TV IFs, not audio.

I have done that with a MC1490, but getting the control loop to behave was
challenging.

One possibility is, I could zip the folder and post it here, or its possible
I may have used CutePDF to print the page - this usually lists the URL at
