Default air conditioning issues

Hi -

My wife and I are temporarily in an apartment situation while our
insurance company decides what to do with our Hurricane Katrina-damaged

house.

This is an old house and the blower unit for the A/C (which I guess is
usually
aligned with the furnace in most homes) is outside with the A/C. In the

past week we've had the A/C repair guys out here five times. All are
related to
the blower quitting - the A/C unit itself is still going but the
actual blowing of air is nonexistent. Everytime I or the landlord call
the
A/C guys, all they do is replace the blower unit, which then works for
approximately 10-20 hours and then quits. Not only that but the air
that
is being blown in is redolent of a stiff breeze on a summer's day on
Lake Michigan, not the cold quasi-Arctic blast I am used to. I have
pleaded with these guys time and again to check the freon or the line
pressure or some other thermodynamic jargon, but something just
happens while I am at work and it's "fixed" when I return.

I have also noticed an unusual burning smell when the blower decides
to commit suicide.

Any hints or things I should get these guys to check?

Thanks,

JMK
