Is your beale mounted on a motor or the lathe

Well, the Beale buffing "system" came last night...

My wife had ordered the buffing system from Penn State Ind. and was VERY
unhappy
with it... worked for hours on a bowl and poor results..
Chaz confirmed my fear that it was underpowered... he said that it might
work
well for pens, but that was about it..

I set up the Bale adapter on the Shopsmith... seemed like a good platform
for it
and the beale adapter slips right on and the set screws are perfect..

The wife got home and put the 1st buffing wheel on and did a few minutes
on a
pine bowl that had Danish Oil on it... She was AMAZED at how much shine
the bowl
took on after just a few minutes.. She loves the Beale already and hasn't
even
tried the cleaning or waxing wheels yet.. lol

To those that are considering buffing systems, do it right the FIRST time
and
buy the beale... Might be a coincidence, but both the Penn State system
and the
Beale are $70... the beale comes without a motor, IMO the Penn State one
should,
too.. YMMV

Keith... right now, it's on the output shaft of my shopsmith.. we were leaving
the next day, I wanted to try it out and the shopsmith has a 5/8" shaft with a
flat spot for allen screws... perfect for the beale, right out of the box..

I'll probably move it to the Jet mini eventually.... got it back with new motor
and haven't used it yet, the 1442 is spoiling the hell out of me.... lol

The Shopsmith works well as it's variable speed and if the beale is like other
systems, you want progressively higher speeds for each wheel/compound... it's
also my DP, though, so I'll eventually want it back..

I do have a pretty good collection of electric motors, so if she gets serious
about buffing, I may set up a 3 motor system or maybe a double shaft on one of
the motors.. I'd rather not, as we're sort of scaling down for a move to Mexico
and have to inventory everything that we take with us... groan*
