For sometime now, and once in the distant past before I upgraded to XP
Pro, I had this problem.

I can input through the keyboard, but a now and then, often in fact,
the on screen display will not show my input characters, then after
about a 10 to 15 second delay, it will all 'paint' onto the display.

During the lull pointer click, though not pointer movement, is locked
out. All on screen activity is frozen, until that "cache" or whatever
it is dumps the input to the screen. Then we go on for another 15 to 20
minutes of input until it happens again.

On line, or offline, it is consistent. Word processor, or mail program,
or even Usenet using the google groups messaging form.

I expect it, in fact, any moment now.

Hi Don...

I would be highly suspicious that you have one or more
keyboard loggers operating there.

If you're not already, get yourself a copy of ad-aware
and a copy of spybot and run them.

Take care.

I used to get that a lot with my old computer (800Mhz, Win98), I get it
on occassion with the new one too (2.8GHz, WinXP) but much less often. I
always took it to be a case of the processor being busy, I've got a heap
of anti-malware programs and they say everythings clean each time I run
them.

That's not to say the OP doesn't have a keystroke logger running, I'd
definitely check into it.. something is happening, at least something is
hogging resources periodically, I think the first thing I'd do is run
Process Explorer to see if it shows anything. There's better programs to
watch processes with but that's a good start, I think it's still free
from Sysinternals.
