have you tried ringing him and asking how to fit them?
FWIIW normal UK mixer taps (at least under the old water by-laws- may
be different now with EU rules) had to have 2 completely separate paths
from the incoming H & C pipes to the outlet nozzle. Just look into the
nozzle & you should see 2 separate outlets. If not panic, & make a
dash for Dungeness before the seller swims to France.
I don't think this is true any more, because a lot of the ones currently
on sale at B & Q have a combined spout. In that case I think you would
need a non-return valve on the cold.
