And no, I didn't entirely believe it until we moved our Welsh dresser the other
day and saw the colour of the skirting board behind it.

It could be that your Welsh dresser has been outgassing something
(Natural Turpentine?, Wood Preserver?) that has collected round the
back and not been able to readily escape because of close proximity to
the wall.
