i have an auto arc quick cut 2000, made by miller. the torch is
damaged, and i have not been able to find a replacement anywhere. this
is a 12a, 115 volt machine, manufactured in 89. serial # jk625060.
spoke with miller this morning, and they do have 3 still on the
shelf....for 563.00 each. (miller original pn 125014...crossed to
126796), which is the one they have in stock.
they claim no other torch will work on the unit. is this the case with
plasma cutters, or are they trying to railroad me into buying a new
machine? seems someone out there would make an aftermarket, or even
"universal" torch assembly. also seems since they(miller) have a
discontinued item on their shelf, for a 15 year old unit, they would be
eager to get rid of it.
does anyone know of anyplace that repairs or sells aftermarket or
used/surplus parts for these things? anyone got a blown out unit and
want to sell the torch?
the problem with the torch is it looks to have shorted, or been
overheated on 1 of the 2 wires going to the head. the wire is burned
off, and has burned thru the insulation. i am thinking of just
soldering it back on and repouring the insulation. looks to be chico
compound , which is used in electrical conduit seals. would this be
safe? thanks for any help or info. and apologies for the long post.
