Hello,
I hope that I am within protocol by asking this here.
I recently bought a home in NY with a Koldwave KW1812 split unit mounted
on
the basement wall connected to a KU1812 unit outside.
It is a 220 volt unit that I would guess is about 15 years old. It has a
remote.
I cannot understand how to operate this unit, as it has a mind of its own.
I
have tried to find manuals online and have been unable, and obviously, I
cannot get in touch with the former home owner.
It has three "Modes." One shows a fan, the other a snowflake and the third
a
drop. The fan has three speeds plus what looks like an energy saver
option.
It also has a timer and sleep mode. I would just like to get it to keep my
basement cool and dry.

The temperature control only functions when it is in the "snowflake mode."
The compressor outside does work, the fan will go on and off and the gas
line will form condensation which freezes sometimes.
Problem is, I cannot get this unit to cool the basement.
I do not understand the settings and the temperature controls. I think
that
it automatically decides whether to cool or dehumidify based upon the room
temperature and the settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Ron

It's a little hard to look at something like that over the internet so you
are probably going to have to call in a service company to look at it. Ask
your friends or neighbors who they would use in such a situation and go from
there. Have them check the system over thoroughly and explain the operation
to you. Might be just a simple fix.

BTW, are you sure that the 'drop' is not a little flame (indicating heat
mode)?
