We have a 6'x24' covered porch with our main entry door in the
back corner of the porch. Unfortunately, moths, mosquitos, and
other flying insects like to hang out under the porch and come
flying into the house every time we open the door.

Is there anything we can do to reduce the insect concentrations
around the porch area? (We do not want screens).

Thanks,

Anthony

As mentioned lighting may be the long term answer. Moving light away
from the home or reducing the amount of time it is on...

Most insects are virtually blind to visible light, or at least
aren't attracted by it. Special "insect bulbs" and filters do exist
- - they block all the ultraviolet light that attracts the bugs (they
also filter out some of the visible blue light, that's why they
shine with a yellow cast).

Just any old yellow lamp or filter won't necessarily do. Make sure
it's a "bug light". They don't repel insects, rather, they just
don't attract them.

UV attracts insects in nature by reflecting and fluorescing off of
flowers, and insects must think that artificial UV sources are
flowers and try to pollenate them. :-)
