The bummer is that this is a 4 year old house,

and we're not the first

owner. My sister's Lennox lasted 30 years.

Aren't the parts still under warranty?
These HVAC guys trash the Goodman units and they
warranty thier parts for 5 years.

Kathy-thanks for the relevant question. Unfortunately, we checked and
it's about 3 months past warranty (5 years), but I'll call the prior
service company today, and perhaps I can get a break.

I talked to the HVAC shop owner this am, and he reviewed everything,
felt it was the condenser fan for certain, and that there was probably
no damage to the valve. He has the serial# of the unit, and will check
and see if anything is under warranty. He will be out tomorrow
afternoon, and I have confidence that he will be fair, and get it fixed.
I only hope it's noisy when he's here, but will replace the fan anyhow
at the least.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Jack

We learned a lot. We replaced the condenser motor and the problem
continued. We called in more experienced (in our opinion) the
Contractors listed in the Homeowners Manual (Jet Residential LLC) about
60 miles away.

Finally, the unit squeaked, etc. when he had his gauges on, and he
immediately determined that is was the compressor. This man came with
HIGH recommendations from our neighbors. He said that the Rheem Corsair
was a very inexpensive unit, and we replaced it with a Carrier (which
has a scroll compressor). We are cool and happy.

Again, every time I come to this group, I end up learning a lot. I hope
I made the correct decision, but sometimes it comes down to experts and
subjective trust. I may have them come out yearly to give it once over
in the spring.

Thanks again,

Jack
