Default Kitchen plinth which way up?

You don't really need the veneer if both edges are hidden under the
units and against the floor. The veneer is used on the open you'll
see when crossing gaps in the unit. Also hand to keep a few bits
spare for the edges of doors if they get chipped.

This is for a unit that is sitting next to a door and the edge of the
plinth is immediately noticable when entering from the other door. I
am talking about the edge you get when you cut 600mm from a 2.4 metre
length of plinth not cutting along the length of it to make it
narrower.

Use a fine toothed handsaw. Mine doesn't chip when I do it.
