It may be a condition of your insurance policy that all wiring complies with
the IEE wiring regulations (which call for periodic inspection and test). I
haven't heard of a claim being refused on these grounds, but it's possible.

However, if someone is electrocuted, as well as civil liability you may be
looking at criminal prosecution, which may be a rather more serious matter.
