That nut should not turn independent of the stump jumper. This is most
likely caused by a sheared key in the shaft that holds the stump
jumper/blades. (output shaft of the gearbox)
The nut is spot-welded to keep it from coming off. A bushhog takes a TON of
abuse in most situations, the last thing you want is the blades flying off.
If this is the case, you can either grind off the nut enough to get rid of
the spot welds, so it can be removed and the key replaced, or you could
just weld the nut to the stump jumper and be done with it.
