That's an old one! I have got an FS200 at home which is the model

came after it.

Tim, After about 20 minutes of playing, the picture starts rolling,
colour fads to B&W and then disappears, with only sound playing. I can
replace an SVHS tape with a VHS one, which plays fine, but SVHS about
20mins. I did read somewhere else on the web about the need to replace
an I.C. I have the skills to do it, but not sure which chip, or where
to find a replacement, hard I am sure!

That isn't one of the (several) problems I've had. It sounds like a heat
related problem.

I would suspect a problem in the power supply. The power supplies run
very hot in these units which tends to dry out the electrolytic caps.
Try replacing the all the electrolytic caps in the power supply module,
there are not that many.

Replacing the caps in the PSU is recommended as they have a tendancy to leak, some of the slimline ones can be hard to find but the fat radial type shoud fit ok. The chip VEFH05 on the Y/C board is often the cause of no S-VHS playback, but it also helps to check the health of C3311 in the HQ pack and C3501 (33µ) in sub Y/C pack, provided your heads are OK! Also make sure the smaller orange belt on the bottom of the deck has not stretched (they often do over time) - you can normally adjust the tension but it can make things worse. This repair is quite difficult so only recommended to skilled technicians.
