Remove as much as you can with a paint scraper or razor blade. Then wipe the
area with trichloroethylene (available in the paint dept at most home
centers).

CAUTION: trichloroethylene will also remove some of the existing finish.
DANGER: this stuff is chemically a first cousin to chloroform. Take the
warnings on the package seriously.
