outset. If it lyses cells with cytoplasm, it must affect empty cells?

And now you hypothesise that if it destroys existing structure it will keep
it from collapsing ? A couple billion years of trial and accidental
success, and now you think what holds a sequoia aloft can be improved by
destroying its structure?

I think you'll have fun, but you might want to temper your research with
deductive rather than inductive reasoning.
