why would tiles need to be sealed?


Some tiles are not glazed, such as some terricottas, and should be sealed if
you want them to be protected from staining.

Otherwise, the OP probably means sealing the grout lines.

They make a silicone based product for sealing grout lines. Some people use
a liquid acrylic, such as Future, for sealing porous tiles.
