Granite's easy enough as a DIY job - the stonemason does the hard
stuff for you. "Professional granite fitters" aren't adding much to
the deal at all. It's not even that expensive, compared to
commercially laid tile or wood.

Of course, local accessiblity to a good stoneyard is an advantage.
