It's called "deliberately dumb" and along with some other
Neanderthal-ish behavior, is quite the rage now in the South and among
the rednecks in the US.
"Wrong, stupid, and damn proud of it." might as well be their motto.
Their heroes are the two dumbest people ever to have been elected to
public office, namely Reagan and Bush. But don't you dare say this, or
they will tear you apart just like they attacked the producers of a
movie about Reagan- they hadn't seen it, but because they heard that it
wasn't 100% flattering (in other words, it was accurate) they raged on
until the network got nervous and didn't show it.
The worst of them are still laughing at farts and racist jokes, just
like the 8-year olds on the playground enjoy doing.
The guys on American Chopper aren't nearly as bad as some, by the way.
And even though they talk and bitch more than they work, they still do
get some things built that aren't half bad.
