Aerate the soil. This can be done by turning the soil over with a
pitchfork, pick or something similar. You can also dig a few holes

"plant" earthworms - let them help with the work.

I can't believe I have to tell you this!

They're planted so just their little heads stick out. Otherwise,
they'd obviously suffocate, now wouldn't they?
