Usually by using a metric key in an A/F hole, or vice versa. ;-)
Or Torx keys: a failed attempt to alter the law of nature I've just
described.
I've never had one of those give trouble - provided you make sure the hole
is clear so the tool fits fully in.
Of course, lots of people don't notice it is a Torx, and use allen keys in
it...
