I have often daydreamed about going to Haynes with some of their mistakes
and confronting them.

Why haven't you?

When I've pointed out mistakes in instructions (not Haynes but technical
scripts) the writers have always been grateful and have changed them in
future print runs or included erratum slips. Anyone who cares doesn't mind
being told about factual errors. The man who never made a mistake never made
anything.
