Default Water system problem

Thus spake Paul Bendall unto the assembled multitudes:
The boiler had not been working as the pilot light would not stay lit, this
was rectified by a Corgi plumber and everything was okay for a few days.
Then the above troubles materialised. It was suggested that I turned on the
central heating and tried to bleed air from the radiators, I have tried
doing this and released about 15 buckets of water from the system, but it is
not getting any better.

Good heavens. 15 buckets???? It sounds like you're draining the system
rather than bleeding air out of it. You should stop bleeding the rad as
soon as air stops escaping and liquid comes out instead. This should only
take a few seconds on each rad. Silly and unintendedly
patronising-sounding question this, but are you sure you're bleeding from
the correct valve on the rads? The bleed valve is at the top of the rad on
one end, usually with a square key.
