Maybe so, but it is interesting to note that Booth was merely
completing the cycle of self-defeat that is so prevalent in the Democrat
party. By leaving the Union in 1861, they made it possible for the
Republicans to have the majority and pass a lot of bills the Democrats had
formerly been able to block. And then the Democrat support Booth, shoots
the President, who, while he might have had his flaws, was probably less
likely to enforce a draconian Reconstruction effort.
Hmmm, sounds like the democrat party of the late 1900s, too.
