A stopped payment check might be a criminal act. The check is a
contract.
You can't legally stop payment except if the check is lost as far as I
know.

I'm surprised the bank allowed it, actually. They usually ask the reason,
and if it's because you are disgruntled, they won't do it. Not in my
experience anyway.
