I am making some plans for my VW generator project. I have to use a
different starter and flywheel than the one that came from the engine.
I have been trying to figure out the correct distance between the new
flywheel and starter motor. By my rough measurements the pitch diameter
of the flywheel is about 276mm and the number of teeth is 132. This
results gear module of about 2.1. I was expecting something more
standard like 2.0 or 2.5. What gives?

Maybe it's a 12DP inch gear, which would have a PD of 279mm.
