On 1/17/2005 10:41 PM US(ET), Chris took fingers to keys, and typed the
following:

All,

I have a tub and shower faucet set that is currently Price Pfister - a
single handled model. Tonight - I purchased a Pegasus set from Home
Depot - 7000 series - also a single handled model. I have some
experience with replacing lav units - but am ignorant when it comes to
shower and tub. I think i can handle the shower head and spout with
no problem (if i dont have to cut the pipe for the spout), but the
main control is another issue. Tonight when i opened the box, i
noticed that the all of the plumbing behind the control is present
(does this make sense)? My question...Can I possibly just replace the
outside piece of the main control? Or am I going to have to break the
tile to get to the supply lines and reconnect and replace the entire
existing configuration?

Any insight is appreciated!

Chris

You won't be able to tell until you start taking it apart. If you do
have to get into the wall, rather than busting out tile, there should be
another way to get to the plumbing, like on the other side of the wall
from the shower plumbing. I get to mine from inside an adjacent bedroom
closet. It is a lot easier to cut out a piece of sheetrock and then
patch it back up, even if it is a little sloppy afterwards, or screw up
a piece of plywood as an access door. You'd have to move clothes to see
the patch.
