Always finding, use 1/4-1/2 a cartridge do a job, then when I come back say
in a years time it has started setting in the cartridge and have to buy some
more!!!

Cool place.
For short term, a (closely fitting, smooth shanked) screw in the top of the
sealant will work.
If you can squeeze out a bit every month, this'll be fine.
However, for longer term, I've found that aluminium foil tape applied over
the nozzle seems to work well.
Make sure you get it smoothed and stuck to the nozzle.
