The short answer is YES
The long answer mumble mumble mumble you should rough out the wood to
whatever you intend to make out of it ( right now ) unless you don't
mind losing a lot of wood, if it has to sit for a long time (and if you
want to dry long half logs it will take VERY long before it is dry ) you
will have a lot of fire wood.
There is some wood that does better withstand drying in bigger chunks
(like Willow Catalpa and a few others) but they are exceptions
