Someone gave me a drawing from the USDA Soil Conservasion Service that
is dated 5-1-39 (yes, 1939) of a 'Sectional Spud' and asked me if I
could make one for them.

It is basically a piece of case hardened steel about 1.25"dia. x 36"
long. It has been machined into a series conical shaped sections (kind
of like barbs) and is used for plunging into silt-like material to
collect soil samples. Something like taking a core sample except that
the test material collects on the fat end of these cones.

I was wondering if any of you good people may be familiar with these
things?
Your help will be appreciated.

Lewis.
