I have a to subscription Consumer Reports On-Line, but am unable to
find any ratings on furnaces. Any Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can read all you want about them..they are ALL about the same, other
than prices of parts, and the name on the unit means NOTHING..its the quality
of the installer that matters....period.
Find an installer you trust, can check out, and go with what he has.

I have to agree. Most now are pretty much the same. Just compare
prices and energy efficiency rating. And most importantly, get a
reputable installer and don't think that whatever they quote you for
the furnace and installation charge is standard pricing.

When we shopped for a new furnace/air conditioner unit, from the
*same* manufacturer we were quoted as much as $3,000 difference
between various heating/ac installers.

Also, don't always believe the installer when they recommend a
particular unit/brand. Many times they are pushing a particular brand
because they're getting manufacturer incentives and has nothing to do
with one unit being better than another (as quoted from a friend of
mine that's been in the business for more than 20 years).

Just stick with a major brand so you won't get stuck later with
expensive repairs because the parts are proprietary.
