I know they're expensive. For this reason I would try to have a good
knowledge base to repair them. Or at least try to...

I'd like to have some more infos about the photodiodes and LEDs, about
calibration and component assembling, before opening the finger probe.

In a clinical setting you don't repair the probe, you replace it -
calibration and reliability are paramount. Near enough is not good enough
when dealing with the life of a patient.
