Okay here is some more info

Integrating a softener into our 1 year old house would be a breeze. Pipes
are very accessible. 2.5 bath, 1 kitchen, 2 outside faucets. Two adults,

a

7 year old, 30 fish, and a cat. The reason we are looking for a softener;

I

was unhappy with the hot water output, so i thought I would replace the
cheap generic contractor elements with those "double looped" quick

recovery

type of elements. When I removed the elements the gap between the lower
element was totally closed off, and the upper element was well coated as
well. This was only after 11 months. It took 2 hours to vacum out the
deposits in the hot water tank with a rigged shop vac attachment. So I am
assuming very hard water.

Hi,
Getting a proper capacity depends on hardness of your water and
number of people in your family(amount of water you use).
Is your house plumbed for softner?

As another person who is interested in a softener, don't you need a floor
drain for water softener ?? I understand that the drain is necessary to
drain the brine. Can it be integrated with the washing machine drain ??

My softener's drain is piped across the basement ceiling to a grey water
waste pipe, thence to the dry well.
