Default Vise jaw problem?

With that much thickness, the OP has the opportunity to make an awesome
dog. Just use hefty dowels. Lift the outer jaw on its pegs, and voila,
full-width dog. Nice.

Although the sliding dovetail suggestion sounds elegant...
