Default Powering a portable karaoke machine

If the unit runs on AC power (plugs into a wall), you SHOULD NOT attempt to
simply attach the power cord to a car battery. AC and DC power DO NOT MIX.
You will need to get a DC-to-AC power inverter. This unit will plug into the
cigarette lighter and provide you with AC outlets just like at home. You can
get one of these at stores like Wal-Mart or just about any auto parts
outlet.

Hi everybody!

I have a very basic electronics question to ask. Here's the deal: I
plan to do some busking around town with a karaoke machine. It's an
amateur machine - it plays CDG's, has a small screen for lyrics and a
mic. It operates much the same as a standard stereo. The problem is, I
need a portable power source for it. Using AC batteries is too
expensive, and there's nowhere to plug it in. A friend suggested
hooking it up to a car battery and regularily recharging the battery,
but i have no idea how to do this. Does anyone have any ideas or
suggestions, or different alternatives? Thanks in advance.
